The Extended Road

Written by Flor Tamayo

7 months ago, we went up to Majayjay to bring my daughter and her family (including my precious apo) to their home.   According to waze, makaka-save kami ng time if we will go via Calauan, Laguna.  And so we followed Mr. Waze. The road was so steep and winding. So dahan dahan lang ang takbo namin. Then to my surprise, there was a ten-wheeler truck heading our way and it occupied the whole road.  I got scared knowing that it will hit us head on!  Good thing, presence of mind prevailed instead of panic. I saw an extended road and steered towards it like a quick stop/lay-by.  I froze for a minute.  My daughter Pam and her family who were all sleeping at the back ay nagising dahil sa reaction namin ni Oyen (my younger daughter).  They asked me “what’s going on?”  So, we told them what just happened.  Anyway, I just can’t thank God enough for the protection.

The following day, I heard mass and went to the Blessed Sacrament.  Again, I thanked God for the grace and protection. As I closed my eyes, I saw the extended road that saved us, and heard the Lord saying … “I will protect you because I love you!”  Feeling so overwhelmed by God’s love, I cried.

The following week, Oyen and I went up to Majayjay again to visit Pam and my apo.  I told Oyen to look for the extended road since she was with me and she witnessed the near-accident that happened the previous week.  But as we passed by Calauan and Nagcarlan road all the way until we reached Majayjay, we never saw the extended road!  Did we miss it despite consciously & deliberately searching for it?  It remains a mystery but I believe God made that special road for us that night.

And then I remembered what I heard Him say during my prayer at the Blessed Sacrament.  He said. “I will protect you because I love you!
